Case:- ABHISHEK BACHCHAN v. THE BOLLYWOOD TEE SHOP & ORS
Citation:- CS(COMM) 960/2025
Date:- 10.09.2025
Delhi High Court Bench:- JUSTICE TEJAS KARIA
The Hon’ble Delhi High Court has passed an interim order protecting the personality rights of Bollywood actor Abhishek Bachchan by restraining various entities from misusing his image, name, voice or other elements of his persona for monetary gains without his consent or authorization.
- The Hon’ble Court said no one can use his name, photo, voice, image, or even initials like “AB” for profit without his permission. The order specially targets misuse through Artificial Intelligence, deepfakes, face morphing, or other technology.
- The Hon’ble Court noted that such acts violate his right to privacy, create false impressions of endorsements, and damage his reputation. It also said misuse could cause serious financial loss, harm to dignity, and confusion among the public.
- The Hon’ble Court passed an ad-interim ex parte injunction in his favour, even against unknown people (“John Doe” defendants). Entities were also restrained from making or selling products like T-shirts, mugs, posters, or videos using his persona.
- The Hon’ble Court held that Abhishek has built goodwill and reputation over years, and unauthorized use would dilute and exploit that reputation unfairly.
