ADV. & SOLICITOR SAJU JAKOB (PAYYAPPILLY)
He was born on 25 May 1967 in Ernakulam District, Kerala State. As freedom fighters, his parents and forefathers contributed their lives to the advancement of society. After obtaining his LLB degree (first five year course)from the Government Law College- Ernakulam, he went on to study LL.M. at Bombay University.
He has been practising with Late Adv. Lily Thomas for quite long and they both have argued many cases together. Ms. Lily Thomas entrusted him with the responsibility of carrying forward her ideals and legal profession as she wished. He is commonly referred to as Lily Thomas Junior. A passionate and serious lawyer, he considers this profession a noble profession. He was trained by late Adv. Lily Thomas, who has committed her life completely to the the Constitution of India and her country. He has also learnt such constitutional values and morals from Lily Thomas personally as he was privileged to live with her. She was living with him at his residence at IP Extinction at her late years of life, and he has upon her death at his home converted the said residence into his office in honor of her.
During her lifetime, she made him the legacy holder of her legal profession. As a tribute to her and her fight for constitutional values, lawyer Saju Jakob formed the law office of Lily Thomas & Saju Jakob during her life. Throughout his professional and private life, he lives out the Indian Constitution’s ideals. His devotion to the Constitution ignites a relentless pursuit of justice for fellow compatriots. Advocate Jakob holds the Constitutional principles especially close to his heart, as did his role model and makes it his life’s mission to uphold the rule of law in every aspect of his life. Through his speeches, writings, and advocacy, he strives to instil such values in lawyers around the world. It is solely his responsibility to manage the said law office and to determine its future course of action.
As a mark of respect for her memory and life, he conducts a Memorial Lecture every year in December. The memorail lectures were held every year on December 12th until 2022. The date has been changed to December 15th in order to make it convenient for lawyers who practice in the Supreme Court of India, the High Court of Delhi, as well as other courts in Delhi. The venue is always the Indian Society of International Law and the time is always 4.30 p.m. The lectures will be conducted both in person and virtually.
As part of her annual memorial lecture series (lectureseries@lilythomas.org) to be held on 15th December at Indian Society of International Law, Law Office of Lily Thomas & Saju Jakob organizes an essay competition, at the end of October, with a deadline of submission of Essays on 30th November to essays@lilythomas.org to remember her constitutional ideals and morals. Having practiced in both the Supreme Court of India and the High Court of Delhi, he is a lawyer with a wide range of national and international experience . Additionally, he is an honorary lecturer at several universities, where he teaches a variety of legal subjects, and was recently appointed a Professor of Practice in Law by a prestigious university.
