The issue that lies before the Hon’ble Court was whether the plaintiff’s personality rights are entitled to protection against misuse, including through the use of AI. It was held that the plaintiff, being in a unique position as a trusted source of spiritual guidance worldwide, had any misrepresentation of his endorsement risks irreparable damage not only to his reputation but also to the public at large. The Hon’ble Court passed a John Doe order protecting the personality rights of the plaintiff and directed for suspension of accounts and the takedown of YouTube channels which exclusively pertain to the content infringing the personality rights of the plaintiff.
