Strike in Delhi Courts from September 8, 2025

Date:- 04.09.2025

Circular No:- REF. NO. CDCBA/2025/208

The Coordination Committee of all District Bar Associations of Delhi has announced an indefinite strike starting Sept 8 in all district courts.

  • The strike is against a Sept 4 circular issued by the Delhi Police Commissioner, which allows police witnesses to be examined through video conferencing from police stations.
  • Earlier, on Sept 2, a delegation of lawyers had met the Union Home Minister, who had assured them that police officials would not be examined from police stations.
  • The lawyers’ body claims that the new circular is contrary to this assurance and amounts to a breach of trust.
  • They also object that the circular classifies witnesses as formal or material and gives discretion to courts regarding physical appearance, something that was never agreed upon in discussions.
  • Lawyers say this move is against the principle of a free and fair trial and also limits the rights of the accused to properly defend themselves.
  • The Coordination Committee has strongly condemned the circular, calling it unacceptable and unfair.
