LG’s Notification on Police Evidence via Video Conferencing Deferred; Home Minister to Hold Talks with Bar

The Delhi Police has announced that the August 13, 2025, notification issued by the Delhi Lieutenant Governor—allowing police personnel to depose and present evidence before courts from police stations through video conferencing—will not be enforced immediately.

Responding to protests from the legal fraternity, the police clarified that the notification will be operationalized only after consultations with all stakeholders. An official statement further confirmed that the Union Home Minister will soon meet representatives of the Bar to deliberate on the matter.

To address and resolve the concerns raised, the Union Home Minister will meet the Bar representatives with an open mind. Until such consultations take place, the notification shall remain on hold,” the Delhi Police stated.

The notification, issued under Section 265(3) of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), had designated all 226 police stations in the National Capital as approved venues from where police officials could depose before courts and present evidence via video-conferencing facilities
